Commenting on the overwhelming support amongst members of the PCS union for one day action in the Scottish Courts Service, the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal’s Service, Sportscotland and the National Museums of Scotland, Grahame Smith, Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) General Secretary said:
“The Scottish Ministers 2% pay cap which is pitched at nearly 3% less than the current rate of inflation is completely untenable and insisting on a three year deal given the current economic uncertainties is even worse. The Scottish Government must enter meaningful negotiations with PCS now to resolve this dispute.”
Today’s action takes place as part of the ongoing campaign against Scottish Ministers 2% pay cap, which saw thousands of members in the Scottish Government and Registers of Scotland take part in two strikes earlier this summer on the same day as tens of thousands of local government workers took action in support of their own pay claim.
Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s local government strike amongst members of GMB, UNISON and UNITE Grahame Smith said:
“I have every reason to believe that local government workers will show massive support for tomorrow’s action. Thousands of low paid public service workers simply cannot afford to see their standard of living fall further. There is enormous disappointment that, having recognized the justice of the pay claim, COSLA has not increased its original offer of 2.5%. They will need to do so if future action is to be averted.”
