Speaking after the Prime Minister launched his government’s new manufacturing strategy, Stephen Boyd, STUC Assistant Secretary said:
“The STUC welcomes the launch of this important strategy, particularly its explicit recognition that the UK’s future lies in a mixed and balanced economy delivering the widest possible range of economic benefits. We look forward to discussing this report with both UK and Scottish ministers over the coming months.
“The STUC is however disappointed that the Government will not consult on its Low Carbon Industrial Strategy until next year. Our fledgling environmental industries have generated far too few jobs to date with the UK lagging well behind countries such as Denmark and Germany who understand that Government must nurture such industries in the early stages”.
