The Scottish Trades Union Congress is supporting the World Against War Demonstration that is taking place in Glasgow today (Saturday 15 March 2008) to mark the fifth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq.
The demonstration was called by the Stop the War Coalition as part of a global protest, and is supported by a range of organisations including the STUC, Scottish CND and the Muslim Association of Scotland.
STUC General Council member Jackson Cullinane will address the demonstration on behalf of Scottish trade unions.
Speaking before the march Jackson Cullinane said:
“The STUC opposed the illegal invasion of Iraq five years ago. The military action has done absolutely nothing to make the world a safer place. We still see death and destruction in Iraq. The situation is one of carnage and destruction in Iraq, and instability and insecurity across the globe. The STUC is clear that foreign troops must be brought home to give peace a chance”.
