Commenting on the decision of the Monetary Policy Committee to hold interest rates at 5.5%, Grahame Smith, STUC General Secretary said:
“Scottish workers are struggling to meet rising food, transport and energy costs alongside their mortgage payments. A cut would have gone some way towards helping hard pressed workers and generally stabilising consumer confidence. It is now essential that rates are cut in February”.
