The Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) today (Tuesday 30 October 2007) welcomed the Scottish Government’s response to the Review of Scotland’s Colleges (RoSCo).
STUC Assistant Secretary Mary Senior said:
“The Cabinet Secretary’s desire for a staff governance standard, and her invitation to the STUC, Association of Scotland’s Colleges and the Scottish Funding Council to co-ordinate a sectoral approach to equal pay audits are very welcome.
“The STUC is delighted that the Cabinet Secretary has endorsed the RoSCo recommendation for all staff in colleges to undertake as a minimum six days continuing professional development".
Ms Senior continued:
“The STUC felt an opportunity had been missed when RoSCo reported in June. However, it is clear that the Cabinet Secretary is intent on moving the sector forward, and that she recognises the pivotal role of staff to the sector, given her support for staff training and development, improved governance, and co-ordinated approaches to equal pay”.
“The STUC expects to see the funding to match these commitments in next month’s spending review, and looks forward to working with all stakeholders in the sector to deliver on this lifelong learning vision”.
