STUC Supports Scotland United Against Terror Rally
The STUC is supporting the Scotland Against Terror rally which will be held on Saturday 7 July 2007 in George Square, Glasgow at 1.30pm. Saturday will mark the second anniversary of the London Bombings and a week since the atrocious attack on Glasgow Airport.
The rally, organised from within Scotland’s Muslim community, will involve groups from across Scottish civic society including trade unions, churches, faith groups and political parties.
Speakers at the rally include Nicola Sturgeon, Deputy First Minister; Osama Saeed, Muslim Association of Britain; Matt Smith, STUC and UNISON Scotland; and speakers from other faith groups including the Church of Scotland and the Catholic Church.
Speaking ahead of the rally, Grahame Smith, STUC General Secretary, said:
“It is crucial that people come together in a demonstration of solidarity against terrorism. We must ensure that no section of the community becomes a scapegoat for the appalling actions of fanatical individuals.”
