Commenting on the reaction to the publication of the latest public sector employment statistics STUC Assistant Secretary, Stephen Boyd, said:
“Another set of public sector employment statistics, another comedy intervention from the Scottish Conservative Party!
“Murdo Fraser states, once again, that there is ‘virtual unanimity amongst experts’ that the private sector is being crowded out. Perhaps he would be kind enough to elaborate on this claim whilst bearing in mind that real experts are driven by knowledge and facts rather than ideology? We should remember that poor Murdo is probably the only person outside the Bush Whitehouse who still accepts the Laffer Curve as serious economics.
“Public sector employment growth has largely been concentrated in sectors such as education and health where private sector demand is very limited. Growth in public sector employment has also been accompanied by strong employment growth in the private sector.
“The Scottish Conservative Party should concentrate its efforts in encouraging businesses to take advantage of unprecedented economic stability and a 40 year high in business profitability to invest in people, plant and research. Hysterical ranting about fictitious problems gets us nowhere”.
