The STUC sends its support and solidarity to today’s vigil.
Scottish trade unionists welcomed families and individuals from Chile to Scotland in the 1970s. These were people, many of them trade unionists, who were fleeing murder, torture, and persecution from General Pinochet and his brutal regime, and we were proud that we could offer refuge in Scotland.
It is important today that we remember all of those who suffered at the hands of this vicious dictator. As we offer our support and solidarity to those affected by the Pinochet regime, we also re-affirm the STUC’s commitment to upholding the cause of human rights in Scotland and across the globe.
