The STUC will Chair a lobby of Westminster MPS by victims families tomorrow (Tuesday 10th October) ahead of the second reading of the Corporate Manslaughter and Homicide Bill in the commons in the afternoon.
Ian Tasker, STUC Assistant Secretary said
“We are delighted to have been asked to Chair this lobby organised by Families Against Corporate Killing that will give those who suffer most, bereaved families, the opportunity to air their views on the proposed corporate manslaughter and homicide legislation.
“The STUC believe the proposed legislation does not go far enough and once again the UK Government are pandering to employers organisations by proposing legislation that allows individual corporate killers to escape justice.
“These employers organisations are defending the indefensible by advocating that individuals who, through their reckless or negligent actions, kill workers should not be held personally accountable for their crimes.
“Neither employers or the UK Government appear to give a damn about the misery and heartache their actions heap on hundreds of families every year who not only lose loved ones but are also left feeling cheated by the justice systems throughout the United Kingdom.
Unamended, the new legislation will not deliver that justice that families deserve and we will work with FACK to develop their membership in Scotland.
