Reacting to the announcement of the appointment of Trevor Philips as Head of the new Commission for Equality and Human Rights STUC Assistant Secretary Mary Senior said,
“On the eve of the STUC’s Black Workers’ Conference, where we will be promoting positive images of black people, it is great to see a black person appointed to lead the new Commission for Equality and Human Rights. The STUC will now be urging Trevor Phillips to ensure that the new Commission addresses all types of discrimination that prevent people from reaching their potential, and has the flexibility to operate effectively in a devolved Scotland”.
