NEWS RELEASE
26 January 2006 For immediate release SCOTISH TUC SUPPORT WORK AND PENSIONS STAFF STRIKE OVER CUTS The Scottish TUC today (26 Jan) expressed its support for the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) members in Scotland working for the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) in Jobcentres, benefit offices, pension centres and the Child Support Agency (CSA) along with colleagues across England and Wales who are beginning a two day strike today in a dispute over deteriorating service levels and government job cuts
STUC Deputy General Secretary, Grahame Smith said "We are alarmed that the proposed job cuts of 3,000 post in Scotland will have a devastating effect not only to those whose jobs are threatened, but to the most disadvantaged in society who depend on these agencies." "We call on the Government to call a halt to these measures and to enter into meaningful discussions with the PCS to properly assess the staffing levels required for these vital services."
