"Unions are the answer to providing access to justice".
The Scottish Trades Union Congress, following the launch of new disciplinary and grievance procedures has sent a strong message to all Scottish workers that union membership and recognition agreements are the key to job security and safer workplaces in Scotland.
Ian Tasker, STUC Assistant Secretary said,
"We are becomingly increasingly concerned at the number of calls we receive from non-members seeking assistance at grievance and disciplinary procedures".
"These new procedures do little to solve this problem and indeed set minimum standards non-unionised employers have to meet before they dismiss or discipline their workers or ignore their grievances".
"The key to fairness in these workplaces can only be through properly negotiated and structured employment policies and trade unions are best placed to deliver such arrangements, providing support and legal assistance to workers injured by, or in dispute by their employers".
"The STUC Unions Work campaign is seeking to ensure that all workers are given the opportunity to benefit from trade union organisation. These new rules merely underline the importance of trade unions and their role in representing their members; security that is not afforded to those working in non-trade unionised workplaces".
