STUC Welcome Pay Rise for Young Scottish Workers
Welcoming today's introduction of a £3 per hour National Minimum Wage for 16 and 17 year old workers, and an increase in the minimum wage to £4.85 for adults and £4.10 for 18 and 21 year olds, STUC Assistant Secretary John Park said:
"This is good news for young workers in Scotland as many are still exploited by employers who wouldn't look out of place running a 19th century mill."
"The STUC and our Youth Committee in particular have campaigned long and hard to remove age discrimination from the National Minimum Wage. We view this move from the government as the next step on a logical path to a fair rate which protects all employees equally from unscrupulous employers."
