STUC offers message of support to Hoover workers on eve of campaign rally

November 21st 2003

NEWS RELEASE

Friday 21st November 2003

STUC offers message of support to Hoover workers on eve of campaign rally The STUC continues to be extremely concerned over the ongoing loss of manufacturing jobs in Scotland. Latest statistics for manufacturing employment and economic growth demonstrate that the Scottish economy continues to perform poorly relative to the UK as a whole and it is in this context that the proposed job losses at Hoover must be considered especially worrying.

Commenting on the eve of the campaign rally in Cambuslang, Stephen Boyd, Assistant Secretary, STUC said:

"The continuing decline in Scottish manufacturing cannot be allowed to continue indefinitely which is why the STUC passionately supports the Amicus campaign to retain manufacturing jobs at Hoover. Hoover has singularly failed to repay the loyalty demonstrated by its workforce in Cambuslang who can boast an outstanding record on productivity. STUC encourages all workers to demonstrate their support by attending Saturday's campaign rally in Cambuslang".
