  • STUC Water Conference 2006

The STUC Water Conference will take place between 0930-1330 on Monday 16 October in John Smith House, Glasgow.

The STUC is committed to campaigning for a publicly controlled and accountable water industry in Scotland which provides an effective and accessible public service, maintains public health, protects the environment and underpins economic development. We continue to be appalled at the incessant, ill-informed attacks on the Scottish Water model by the promoters of privatisation.

The purpose of this conference is to launch research recently commissioned from the Public Interest Research Network (PIRN) at Strathclyde University. It is the STUC’s aspiration that this research, and the other contributions at the conference, will help to generate a higher level of debate about the challenges facing Scottish Water. We encourage you to attend.

Speakers include:

• Dave Watson, UNISON, on behalf of the STUC water affiliates;

• Public Interest Research Network – Professors David Miller and Christine Cooper, Strathclyde University, will present the research outlined above;

• Jim and Margaret Cuthbert – independent consultants will provide a critique of the funding of Scottish Water;and,

• Kirstie Shirra, World Development Movement, will provide an international perspective
